It's frightening. I believe that you were not completely asleep if you could control what was going on. I was conscious when it happened to me, and it didn't last long either like yours. I don't know why that sometimes happens. It felt like my eyes were glued shut, and my body was filled with dried concrete! Not a fun experience. I was paralyzed once in my sleep also.
